Our Thoughts Become Us

“What we think, we become.” -Buddha

"Why am I thinking of this?"

It can be difficult to understand why we think about certain matters.

Why do think the way we do?🤔

Where do our thoughts come from?

My assessment is that they come from three sources.

"You become what you think about all day long." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Thought Derived from Senses

We process a great deal of information through our senses at all times.😵‍💫

Much of it is filtered based on what we focus on.🧐

Through the information our senses receive we gain awareness of our surroundings.

"Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun's rays do not burn until brought to a focus." -Alexander Graham Bell

Thought Derived from Emotion

Our emotions are a physical response of our subconscious mind.🫥

Our mind moves and our emotions express themselves based on what we have thought.😕

In turn our emotions portray how we perceive our surroundings as well as how we identify them.

Through our emotions we gain awareness of how we feel.

"We are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think. When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves." -Buddha

Thought Derived from Thought

From our thoughts we derive more thoughts.

We conceive and connect what we understand to be relevant thoughts and increase our understanding of what we think.💭

This process enables us to increase our understanding of what we focus on.

"A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes."

Reciprocity of Thought

How do our thoughts guide us?

Our thoughts effect how we perceive and feel.

We focus our senses on what we think about in order to gather more information about it.

Through this our senses feed back into how we think about things.🤔🔄🧐

We feel emotions based on how we decide we want to feel about something.

Through this our thoughts trend toward feeling certain emotions based on certain thoughts.🤔🔄😕

Every thought, emotion and sense has an impact upon us.

How do we guide our thoughts?

Through acknowledging what we think and why we think it, we gain the ability to decide what we focus on.

Through being patient with ourselves we allow ourselves time to understand ourselves and others without allowing initial biases to determine how we think.🙏

Each of our thoughts have been compounded from previous thoughts and experiences.

All of who we are is based upon what we’ve thought.

At all times we can guide our thoughts towards what we want to think about.🧘‍♀️🧘🧘‍♂️

Through the practice of virtue we can liberate ourselves of bias and gain control of our thoughts and decide how we want live!🥳
