Holding Destiny

"It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves." -William Shakespeare

“Where am I heading?”

What comes to mind when this question is asked?

It can be difficult to assess where our life is heading.😧

Fortunately, through introspection we can estimate where we are going.🧐

“Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?” -Garth Nix

“What do I think about?”

We refine our intent through our thoughts.

The more we think about something, the more we make sense of it.🤔

Gradually, through accumulation, the understanding we gain is formulated into words.

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

“What do I speak about?”

Our words come from our thoughts.🗣️

We set goals and align our focus based on what we think about.

What we think about feeds how we communicate with ourselves and others.

Our words reinforce our intentions and lead to our actions.

“I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value.” -Hermann Hesse

“What do I do?"

Our actions come from our words.

What we speak about fuels our actions.🚶

We begin to navigate our minds towards acting upon our words.🧭

Our actions affect our experiences and our experiences in turn affect our words and thoughts.

Our actions reinforce themselves and become our habits.

“Destiny is not a matter of chance; it is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.” -William Jennings Bryan

“What are my habits?”

Our actions feed our habits.

Our routine in turn feeds our actions, words and thoughts.

Through accumulation of our thoughts we come to make sense of our habits.🤨

Our habits then become an intrinsic aspect of our character.

“You are not the victim of the world, but rather the master of your own destiny. It is your choices and decisions that determine your destiny.” -Roy T. Bennett

“What is my character?”

Our habits feed our character.

Our character is conceptualized by our thoughts, defined by our words, practiced through our actions and becomes us through our habits.

In turn our character reinforces these aspects.

All that we are characterizes us.😇

Our character determines our destiny.

“What we call our destiny is truly our character and that character can be altered. The knowledge that we are responsible for our actions and attitudes does not need to be discouraging, because it also means that we are free to change this destiny. One is not in bondage to the past, which has shaped our feelings, to race, inheritance, background. All this can be altered if we have the courage to examine how it formed us. We can alter the chemistry provided we have the courage to dissect the elements.” -Angela Anaïs Juana Antolina Rosa Edelmira Nin y Culmell

“What is my destiny?”

Our destiny is the result of our accumulation of all that we are and become in life.🥳

Through experiencing life, our destiny and all of its preceding components change.

In order to grasp our destiny we must make conscious decisions to alter our thoughts, words, actions, habits and character into ones that will lead us towards our desired outcomes in life!

“I am the sum total of everything that went before me, of all I have been seen done, of everything done-to-me. I am everyone everything whose being-in-the-world affected was affected by mine. I am anything that happens after I'm gone which would not have happened if I had not come.” -Salman Rushdie
